Udupi, Mar 25: In a tragic incident that occurred on the early morning of Wednesday, March 25, a man who thought that he has contracted the dreaded coronavirus infection, killed himself at Uppoor near here.
Gopalakrishna Madivala (56), a resident of Narnadu of Uppoor is the person who hanged himself from a cashewnut tree in the compound of his house. It is said that Gopalkrishna was awake till 2 am in the morning and had spoken with his family members.
When his family members woke up and saw at 5 am, Gopalkrishna was found hanging. It is learnt that he has written a death note before killing himself in which he has written that he is killing himself as he has doubt that he has acquired the dreaded coronavirus infection. However, locals said that he did not display any symptoms of coronavirus.

It is also said that the deceased had told to one of his friend that he has symptoms of coronavirus infection. This fear is the reason for his extreme step, it is said.
As the death note of deceased contained mention of coronavirus family members and locals waited till afternoon for the police and health officials to get the body down from the tree.
The deceased was working as a KSRTC bus driver for many years and recently was giving training to new drivers. He is a native of Kokkarne but was living in Kokkarne, where he had built a new house. He is survived by his wife, son and daughter.
