Karwar, Mar 24: It is learnt that two more persons from Bhatkal have tested positive to the presence of coronavirus. With this, the number of persons in the district suffering from this infection has risen to three. The district administration has confirmed this information.
Sources said that the new additions are from Jali and Siddique Street in Bhatkal town. They are aged 40 and 65 respectively.
Two of the infected persons had come to Mangaluru from Dubai. The third one had arrived at Bhatkal via Mumbai.
Deputy commissioner of the district, Dr Harsh Kumar, gave information about two new coronavirus patients at a press conference he addressed the his office on Tuesday, March 24.
He said that a 40-year-old man who came to Mangaluru airport from Dubai on March 21, came to his house at Bhakal in the family vehicle with a relative. He was at his home for half an hour and then got his health checked at the taluk hospital. His throat swab samples had been sent for testing.
The 65-year-old had left Dubai on March 18 and reached Mumbai. On the next day, be started by train and reached Bhatkal on March 20. Health workers who checked him, found symptoms of coronavirus infection in him. He was quarantined at home. His throat swabs were also sent for testing, and the test proved to be positive. He said that details of their travel and people with whom they came in contact are being collected.
Considering Bhatkal as a cluster, leaving and visiting the cluster has been banned. Fumigation has been undertaken there. Health workers would be visiting each of the houses there once in 15 days. Bhatkal taluk hospital has been exclusively earmarked for COVID 19 treatment and other patients have been shifted elsewhere, he stated.
