Mangaluru: Video of 'coronavirus' patient on social media fake, clarifies Wenlock hospital

Mangaluru, Mar 22: Wenlock hospital on the night of Sunday March 22 issued a statement clarifying that the videos circulating on social media purpotedly of the patient aflicted with coronavirus were fake.

Soon after the first coronavirus case was confirmed in Mangaluru on Sunday, videos started circulating of a patient, with messages claiming that the youth in the video was the coronavirus patient admitted to Wenlock hospital.

The video shows a youth, dressed in pink trousers and lying on a blue hospital bed, wearing a mask and gasping for breath. His body is seen convulsing at his effort to breathe.

The video was circulated widely on social media like WhatsApp and Facebook. Wenlock hospital then issued a clarification that it was fake.

"A video of a patient convulsing on a hospital bed is being circulated on social media. This video is not of Wenlock hospital. Besides, we do not use blue beds," the hospital said.

"We will file a complaint with the police regarding the video tomorrow (Monday March 23)," the hospital added.

The first coronavirus case in Mangaluru was confirmed on Sunday after a Bhatkal native tested positive. He had returned from Dubai on March 19, and is presently in Wenlock's isolation ward.
