Mangaluru, Mar 17: The district health department has received results of swab samples of 11 persons suffering from symptoms matching that of coronavirus infection. All the samples have proved negative. Ten more reports are pending.
On Monday March 16, five persons suffering from fever, headache, cold and cough were kept under observation in different hospitals in the city. Deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district Sindhu B Rupesh, said that they have been kept under observation as a precautionary measure and there is no need to become panicky about spread of coronavirus infection.
On Monday, 838 persons were subjected to health check at the international airport here. Among them, five were found to be suffering from symptoms like fever, headache, cough etc. They have therefore been kept under observation in hospitals. Already 15 persons are under 14-day quarantine in their homes. Seven have completed 14 days quarantine period and their symptoms have since been healed, she stated.
The deputy commissioner said that no coronavirus infection has been reported so far from the district and asked people not to believe in baseless rumours.
Beltangady
In the meantime, a person who recently returned after visiting Mecca under Umrah pilgrimage has fallen sick. The health department has kept him in isolated ward and has been observing his health condition. His throat swabs have been sent for testing.
The 75-year-old man from Karaya in Beltangady taluk had completed his Umrah pilgrimage in the company of his daughter and son-in-law recently. He was outside India for about 15 days. He has been suffering from cold, cough and running nose since some days. Under instructions of health department, Asha workers have got him admitted into the government hospital at Beltangady. Test report is awaited.
