Mangaluru, Mar 5: As many as 480 students failed to appear for PU exam from Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts on the first day of PU final examination on Wednesday. On the first day, examinations in history, basic mathematics and physics subjects were held. As many as 338 from Dakshina Kannada district and 142 from Udupi, failed to appear for the examinations.
A total of 251 out of 10,987 absented in Dakshina Kannada for history. 123 did not appear for the history examination in Udupi district. In basic mathematics, four out of 826 stayed away in Dakshina Kannada. In Udupi, one person absented from basic mathematics examination. As many as 83 out of 13,224 students in Dakshina Kannada chose not to appear for physics examination. In Udupi, 18 out of 4,968 students who registered for physics examination absented.

No copying or debar cases were reported from both the districts. A release from Dakshina Kannada department of PU education said that on March 5, examination in Malayalam, Arabic and French languages are being held.
