Kadaba, Mar 3: In connection with the death of Meghraj (32), a native of Rajasthan after a sand tempo bearing Kerala registration number crushed him under its wheels on Sunday, there were allegations of the police showing lenience towards the tempo driver and registering a case showing the two-wheeler rider as being at fault. Relating to this allegation, district superintendent of police (SP) visited Kadaba and ordered the investigation to be conducted by deputy superintendent of police.
After the accident, before the police arrived at the spot, sand in the tempo was unloaded near a nearby house before moving the tempo back to the accident spot. The driver reportedly told the police that the tempo was empty at the time of the accident. But, photographs clicked by some locals immediately after the accident showed that the tempo was loaded with sand.

Based on complaints made by the friends of the deceased, district superintendent of Dakshina Kannada district Laxmi Prasad, visited Kadaba police station. He asked the police to register cases of theft and attempt to destroy evidence against the tempo driver and asked Puttur deputy superintendent of police, Dinakar Shetty, to investigate the incident in detail and file a report. Brother of Meghraj, Lal Singh, has urged the SP not to succumb to political pressure and see that justice is done.
At the same time, the body of Meghraj was arranged to be sent to Rajasthan by a flight from Bengaluru. The vehicle carrying the body had reached Bengaluru on Monday morning but it could not be dispatched as the report of the doctor did not speak of the skull having been crushed and as the police had not provided copy of the first information report when handing over the body. The body therefore had to be kept waiting till the papers were received, and the family lost Rs 20,000 which it had paid to ferry the body in the morning as they missed the flight due to improper paperwork, it is learnt.
