Kundapur, Mar 2: "Kannada dialect that is in use in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts appears to be most appropriate and pleasant. Kannada used in books is spoken in Karnataka coast. The air here is salty and its inhalation instils a sense of elation and fulfilment," said top music composer and lyricist of Sandalwood, Hamsalekha.
He was speaking after receiving S Janaki Award instituted by Kota Manasmita Foundation (R), Geetananda Foundation (R) Manuru, and Uva Meridian Koteshwara on February 29. On that occasion, a programme of musical extravaganza titled 'Hamsagaana' and awards function were organized together at Opera Park of Uva Meridian Koteshwara.
He also said he was fortunate to receive an award that bears the name of one of the best playback singers in the history of the country. "For me, the award standing in the name of S Janaki is more valuable that even Bharat Ratna," he explained.
Hamsalekha recalled that when he entered the filmdom, Janaki was the first to spot his talent and provide encouragement. "With her kindness and blessings, I grew in south Indian film industry. I cannot forget my mother figure, Janaki, ever. The award started by her two sons in her name has elevated me to the level of sky. This was the place where my first play was enacted. The affection people from here have showered on me cannot be forgotten," he stated.
"We see that some sort of discipline has set in Kannada film production because of young talents from coastal Karnataka. They have helped the filmdom to rise to the level of Hindi movies. Your language and your art have no parallel,” he said.
On this occasion, Dr B N Gangadhar, a renowned psychiatrist and recipient of Padma Shri award, was honoured with Manasmita Foundation National Award.
Managing director of Manasmita Foundation, Prakash Tolar, presided over the programme.
Nadoja G Shankar, Geetananda Foundation director Prashant A Kunder, Uva Meridian director Uday Kumar Shetty, Naveen Shetty, Manamsita Foundation directors Savita P Tolar, Neha S Poojary, Hakub Gulwady and others participated as chief guests.
Programme convener Dr Sathish Poojary, delivered introductory address. Vishwanath Kundapur compered the programme.
