Dubai, Nov 8: The countdown for the two-day ‘World Kannada Cultural Convention’ has begun. It is to be held on Friday November 20 and Saturday November 21 at the Sheikh Rashid Auditorium, Indian High School, Dubai.
The event has been jointly organized by Karnataka Sangh, Dubai, and ‘Hrudayavahini’ magazine, Mangalore.
"The World Kannada Cultural Convention will highlight and showcase the rich literary and cultural heritage of Karnataka to the world. This is the sixth edition of the world convention which was started in 2004. It has been hosted in various countries in the Gulf and in Singapore by ‘Hrudayavahini’ magazine along with the local Kannada associations," said C R Shetty, president, Karnataka Sangh, Dubai.
Karnataka chief minister B S Yeddyurappa has promised to attend the event, but the prevailing political unrest in the state as well as the flood-related problems in North Karanataka have raised some concerns.
According to Shetty, some other political heavyweights are expected to attend and their confirmations are awaited.
“An effort has been taking place to invite the external minister of India S M Krishna to the event, but no official confirmation has been received”, he said.
Many stars from Kannada filmdom are a main attraction of the event. Noted film actors, singers, dancers, and other artistes along with Kannada’s top poets, writers, and thinkers are expected to attend the two-day gala event.
Entry to the show is free and those who wish to attend the event can confirm their attendance by filling an easy, online form.
