Bengaluru: D K Shivakumar as KPCC president - Announcement likely on February 29

Bengaluru, Feb 29: The news about choosing a president for the state unit of the Congress has again come to the fore after being in hibernation for some time. As per some sources, DK Shivakumar's name is likely to be announced as the next president of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee on February 29.

It is said that the party proposes to create another post of the working president in addition to Ishwar Khandre and give that post to Satish Jarkiholi, who hails from Nayaka community.

The high command is said to have rejected the proposal to create two separate posts, one for the leader of the Congress legislature party, and the other of the leader of the opposition. Siddaramaiah is likely to continue in both these posts, and as per reports, the resignation tendered by him to these posts will be rejected.

As Rahul Gandhi is on a foreign tour and national president of the party, Sonia Gandhi is unwell, most of the decisions are not being taken. In all likelihood, the state Congress in-charge, KC Venugopal, may contact Rahul to get his nod for Shivakumar's appointment and make an announcement on February 29 ahead of the assembly session beginning on March 2.
