Moodbidri, Feb 27: Raveendra (38) who hails from the dalit community, was attacked by his own brother and brother-in-law for frivolous reasons. He later breathed his last at a hospital. Both the accused stand arrested relating to this murder.

Raveendra came home on Sunday night after the day's work. It is said that his brother, Srinivas, and brother-in-law, Anand, picked up a quarrel with him for silly reasons before attacking him. As Raveendra was kicked in the abdomen during the attack, he vomitted blood. Hearing Raveendra's fervent cries, people in the neighbourhood rushed to the spot and took him to the government hospital at Karkala. From there, he was admitted into Wenlock Hospital Mangaluru. However, Raveendra's life could not be saved and he passed away on Monday, it is said.

The accused initially had told the police that Raveendra had fallen from atop a tree while harvesting black pepper crop. However, on further investigation, the police found that Raveendra was the victim of a murderous attack by his own people.

Raveendra, who was unmarried, was the pillar of support for the entire family. It is learnt that the accused, Srinivas (42) and Anand (40) are not hard-working.
