Bengaluru: 'CAA is national issue, not just affecting Congress' - D K Shivakumar

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Feb 24: "Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) is not just affecting the Congress party. It is a national issue having international ramifications. But for the BJP leaders, they see only the Congress everywhere. They have been leveling all kinds of allegations against the Congress," observed former minister, D K Shivakumar.

Shivakumar spoke to media persons in retaliation to the charges leveled by the BJP leaders that tacit support by the Congress party has been fuelling anti-CAA protests. "Our party has left the issue of CAA for the people to decide. Those opposing it are expressing their point in their own ways. This issue is being discussed at the international level and many countries are observing the development. The central government has come to know that the issue of CAA is being debated at the international level and different countries are considering the desirability of slicing monetary transactions with India," he explained.

Shivakumar said that after the enforcement of CAA, the very angle of treating India abroad has undergone a change. "Our educated young people are living in large numbers in countries like USA and Europe. In those countries, they are a minority. After the passage of the said act, the way they are viewed has undergone a change," he said.

At the same time, Shivakumar asserted that there is no question of lending support to Amulya Leona. "We should indulge in politics only within certain limits. When the matter concerning our country crops up, national interest becomes our priority. We cannot justify insulting our country and hailing another. We do not support such a step," he stated.

At the same time, Shivakumar felt that the concerned need to get to know what the girl wanted to convey. "I have seen Amulya speaking about certain ideology. Therefore, we do not know what she exactly wanted to convey. We need not be in a hurry in the issue," he felt.
