Mangaluru, Feb 25: The Mangaluru City Civic Committee staged a protest against the BJP-led Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) over alleged irregularities during its five-year tenure. The protest, held at the MCC building on Tuesday, February 25, was titled ‘Citizen Charge Sheet’ and will be submitted to the civil court.

The protest march was taken out from PVS to the MCC building.

CPIM leader Muneer Katipalla released the ‘Citizen Charge Sheet’ and criticized the BJP-led MCC for failing to fulfill its promises.

"Five years ago, when the BJP took power in the Mangaluru City Corporation, they promised corruption-free governance, tax concessions, good administration, and much more. However, instead of delivering on these promises, the MCC has been involved in scams, corruption, an increase in self-assessment property tax, and the privatization of the drinking water project under the Jalasiri scheme. We have listed 16 points in the Citizen Charge Sheet, which will be submitted to the civil court," said Muneer Katipalla.

He further stated that it was unfortunate that the opposition Congress had not raised its voice against these irregularities. "While the opposition remained silent, the civic committee has investigated and listed out the irregularities of the BJP’s five-year tenure at MCC," he added.

He alleged that MCC had taken loans from the ADB bank, which were misused, and had agreed to anti-people policies. "No one is questioning the smart city funds or the TDR scam, which benefits real estate firms. So far, they have not initiated a single housing project for the needy. Faulty UGD works, substandard concrete works, lack of concern for the poor, and the bulldozing of street vendors have all been included in the 16 points of the Citizen Charge Sheet," he said.
