Udupi, Feb 21: District Committee of Karnataka Muslim Jamaat launched its state-wide awareness campaign ‘Praja Bharat’ on Thursday, February 20 at Legado Hotel.
The 55-day campaign is themed ‘Leave Hatred and Build Nation’ and is focused on creating awareness on controversial measures such as National Register of Citizens (NRC). It will also emphasize on the importance of pluralism and harmony in the country.
In his inaugural address, Dr Muhammad Fazil Razvi said, “The first man who entered India was a Muslim. Today, humanity is forgotten. A Hindustan Muslim loves his motherland just like his own parent. There were good and bad kings or administrators in Muslim dynasty but that does not imply that all are bad. Many Muslim youth are serving in Indian Army. We do it with respect and pride, because we all belong to Hindustan.
“We have to protect ourselves. We should keep youth away from bad habits like alcohol and drugs. Let’s teach them to love our motherland,” he said.
N K Muhammadad Shafi Sadi, member of State Wakf board, in his keynote address said, “Today, some decisions by the government is affecting tolerance and has hurt the sentiments of Muslims. All Indians should live in unity and harmony.
“The government has taken some decisions, not for the development of nation, but for the development of their political party. These laws are creating hatred between religions. If there are complications in CAA, NRC and NPR, it should be addressed legally. It should not damage love, harmony and co-existence. No one should be influenced by this political conspiracy. Nation comes first and it is important. There will be no religious discrimination.
“Government of India should go as per the Indian Constitution, not as per their party manifesto. If anything goes beyond Constitution, we are ready to fight legally. Let’s build our nation with love, unity, affection and harmony. One should not forget the legacy of our ancestors.
“The three Kashmiri students from Hubballi, who have raised slogans in favour of Pakistan should get maximum punishment.
"We have no candidates in Lok Sabha to raise our problems. Even after 70 years of independence, we are still on roads, shouting slogans and fighting for our rights. There are just 7 MLAs who represent our community out of the 85 lac population in the state. There is need to raise our voice at Vidhana Soudha. There are Vokkaliga, Brahmin, SC/ST, Lingayat political representatives according to their population.
“As many as 22 lac Muslim families are living in slums. Just 51% people are literate in Muslim community. We see very less number of Muslims in public service sector and State Bar Council. The time has come to think about all these points seriously,” he said.
