Bengaluru: 'Recommend union government to add Tulu language in eighth schedule' - MLA Umanath Kotian

Bengaluru, Feb 20: Moodbidri MLA Umanath Kotian on Thursday, February 20, urged the state government to put pressure on union government to add Tulu language to the eighth schedule during the present assembly session that is in progress now.

Speaking on the subject Umanath Kotian said, "More than a crore people of Tulunadu are pressurizing since long to recognize Tulu language at national level. The state government has to recommend the same to the union government so that Tulu can be added to the eighth schedule."

"There are people who speak Konkani, Byari and Urdu languages in Tulunadu. But they are Tulunadigas. They all speak Tulu as they have born and brought up in Tulunadu. The traditional sport Kambala of Tulunadu is recognized worldwide now. So the people of Tulunadu want the language of such a glorious land to be added to the eighth schedule. This should be first passed at the state level and then should be recommended to the centre," added Kotian.

    many thanks Shri Umanath Kotian Sir for raising Tulunadu's voice in Karnataka assembly. hope all Tuluvas dream comes true. those commenting against Tulu language are jealous of Tulu Nadu culture. Tulu is the language of the Soil of Udupi, Mulki, Mangalore, Moodbidri, Karkala, Manjeshwara, Kasaragodu. still many old timers exist that cant speak Kannada properly. Kannada was brought to Tulu speaking regions as an academical language by the Missionaries of Basel Pentecostal church to spread education in the erstwhile Canara region. Tulu is the language of the heartland of the region. the village names are in Tulu, even in Kasaragod the village names are in Tulu (eg- Banjibail, Shanthihitlu, Nelliyadka, Badiyadka, Posangadi).
    those people that have migrated from mainland Kannada regions through job transfers, govt officers etc feel uneasiness at the non existence of Kannada in private places, markets etc. even after living for decades in Coastal Karnataka they dont feel like learning the local language, but these same people want north indians migrating to Bangalore to speak Kannada fluently. but we have no problem, its alright, but dont block us from lobbying for our language which is as dear to us as kannada is dear to you. for us Tulu bhashene satya tulu bhashene nithya. jai Tulu Nadu.

    this campaign to include in 8th schedule should be combined effort for Tulu and Kodava languages...Coorg was a State by itself before Karnataka state was formed, having its own Chief Minister. Both languages should be elevated to 8th schedule without delay. This is long overdue.

    Now that the Tuluvas have voted in large numbers to the BJP congress ..its time all the local politicians put pressure on the state govt to do this long time call ..of the tuluvas ..
    IF it doesnt happen wont be far ..when we will see demand for separate tulu state.

    I'm Kannadiga and I'm not insecure at all. I want Tulu to be used as an official language in Karnataka (even outside of the two districts) alongside Kannada.

    Kids already have lots to learn.. why another subject... everyone are going to ie one day what to do by ;learning languages.. which ever their mother tongue they will learn naturally.. why burden kids.. kids should be thought to live and let leave others peacefully and whatever required subjects for their jobs... there should be some compulsory counselling sessions in every schools for the kids to grow up finely and to a good human beings.. why all these bull shits.. all these politicians for their name sake they burden our future gen

    Yes, according to my knowledge Tulu do not have a popular and daily using script. Those advocating tulu....how many of their grand children speaking Tulu or studying in Kannada??? It will be very nice if we speak Tulu at home...especially NRI's to keep the language going for another century! Konkani is no different!!! And forcing todays children to study another language....will it help them for future career other than home and native? Will they be working in tulunadu only!!! Lots of questions! Like most here I too want Tulu to live for ever and ever...!
    Simultaneously politicians should try and improve roads water and electricity in Tulunadu...other than show bhaji!!
