Kasargod, Feb 20: In a heart rending incident which happened at Kannur, a woman smashed her 18-month-old child against the boulders on the seashore in order to be able to live in the company of her paramour. Relating to the incident, the murder-accused Sharanya (24), stands arrested by the police.

Sharanya has reportedly confessed that she wanted to charge her husband Pranav, of murdering her child and then begin to live with her lover happily thereafter. The incident happened at Thayyil seashore, Kannur.

Sharanya committed this dastardly act in the wee hours on Monday, February 17 in which her son, Viyan, lost his life at a tender age. In the early hours on Monday, she had picked her sleeping child, walked some distance towards the sea and tossed her baby against the boulders on the seashore. The child, which suffered grievous injuries to its skull, died on the spot. Later, Sharanya's husband Pranav filed police complaint about the disappearance of the child.

The police had got the clue during investigation that the relationship between Sharanya and Pranav was strained. The police interrogated both of them but found that their statements contradicted each other. Specifically the response by Sharanya to certain questions gave rise to suspicions in the minds of the police. Even after the police subjected Sharanya to two days of sustained questioning, she was not prepared to accept that she was behind this crime. When her clothes were subjected to tests at forensic science laboratory, salty substance was found in them. Based on this proof, the police posed more questions to her, after which Sharanya confessed that she was the culprit who killed Viyan.

Murder conspiracy

Pranav, who used to go for fishing along with his father, used to return home after remaining at sea for several days at a stretch. Taking advantage of the fact that her husband was at home on Sunday night, she committed this act. She agreed that she picked the child after midnight and tossed it on the seashore.

Sharanya had been married off as soon as she attained 18 years of age. She fell in love with Pranav, whom she got to know through social website. In spite of opposition from her family members on account of caste differences, she went ahead, and stayed stubborn on marrying Pranav. However, fissures appeared in their married life soon after which both the families had come together to talk, and struck compromise. In the meanwhile, Pranav left for foreign country on getting job.

In the meantime, Sharanya fell in love with another youth. She decided to live with this young man. She thought that the best option would be to kill the child and accuse Pranav for it. After sometime, Pranav returned home on Saturday. As she knew that Pranav would be at home for a couple of days, Sharanya planned to execute the murder plan on Sunday night. At around 3 am on Monday, she picked up the child, duly taking care to see that it did not come to Pranav's notice. She tiptoed to the seashore, tossed the child against the boulders, and returned home to her bed and continued to sleep. No one noticed her committing this act.

The police personnel said that during their investigation, they have realized that Sharanya alone planned and executed this crime, and her paramour was not involved with the murder.
