Manglauru, Feb 15: Flight schedules went for a toss at the Mangaluru International Airport here on the morning of Saturday February 15, as take off and landing activities were adversely affected due to fog.
From 7 am onward, both landing and taking off were suspended.
This posed problems for several flights from different parts of the country and abroad which were to touch down here in the morning. The flight from Dubai was one of them, as it was diverted to Bengaluru.
The sudden turn of events put the passengers in a quandary for sometime.
According to sources, the visibility came down to 100 metres, which adversely affected arrival and departure of flights. Visibility needs to be at least of 800-900 metres for flights to operate, the source said.
Flight operations resumed normally after 10.30 am once the weather cleared, the source said.
Karnataka minister for primary and secondary education Suresh Kumar was among the passengers who were affected by the disruption in flight operations. The minister tweeted that he was scheduled to take a flight from Bengaluru to Mangaluru to participate in some programmes, however, he was forced to wait for one-and-a-half hours inside the flight at Bengaluru airport. He termed it a form of 'imprisonment'.
