Mangaluru, Feb 12: Lourdes Central School (LCS) on February 11 celebrated the feast of its patroness Our Lady of Lourdes. The programme was held during the morning
assembly at LCS ground.
Fr Joseph Lobo, the parish priest of ‘Our Lady of Miracles Church’ and the correspondent of Milagres Educational Institution, here was the chief guest.
Fr Wilson Vitus D'Souza, manager of LCS, Fr Robert D'Souza, principal and Belita Mascarenhas, vice-principal graced the occasion.
The programme began with a prayer followed by the welcome address by Clive Rego of Class VIIIA. Christa Oliver of Class VIIIC spoke on the significance of the day.
The chief guest Fr Joseph Lobo spoke on the occasion and appreciated the efforts of the principal and faculty for the success of the school. He mentioned that the message of Our Lady of Lourdes is to have courage, confidence and give comfort to all in the world. Sharing the story of the pencil, he said we should be like the pencil having an outward appearance, inner talents, sharpening ourselves for betterment, erasing the mistakes and surrendering to the will of the writer.
The manager, Fr Wilson Vitus D'Souza said, "Our patroness teaches us to be prayerful and to thank God at all times. He asked the students to pray for the people of China and India. He also mentioned that the work of God is always complete and a prayerful person always wishes good for others.
Felicitation of outstanding achievers:
LCS inspires and motivates the students to excel in every field. The achievers in the national and international fields were honoured. They were Anaggha Rajesh (skating), Shriyana S Mallya (chess), Rudra Rajeev (chess), Shradha S Pai (chess), Shreya Arbi (athletics) from the sports field.
Nidhi Noronha and Badekai Vishruth Krishna R Bhat who were selected for VVM National level at Chandigarh, Punjab in May 2020 were honoured.
The staff Mary D'Souza, Pamela Miranda and Antony K were honoured for their relentless service.
The cultural programme included a dance in honour of the school patron and a short play on Our Lady of Lourdes, depicting the life of Bernadette and the apparition of Our Lady of Lourdes.
The programme ended by wishing the birthday children and singing the school anthem followed by the eucharistic celebration. The entire programme was compered by Megan D'Souza and Steve D'Mello of class VIII A.
Collection drive/ visit to hospital
The school conducted a collection drive by collecting items of daily use and grocery items by the staff and students for various ashrams.
There was a visit to the Government Wenlock Hospital and the principal, staff and students offered the fruits collected by the school to the patients and prayed for their speedy recovery.
The vote of thanks was rendered by Sreesthira Mukerji of VIII B.
