Kuwait, Oct 24: Kunjal Friends in Volleyball and Kuwait Konkans in Throw ball became the champions in the KCWA Cup 2009 organized by Kuwait Canara Welfare Association (KCWA) on Friday 23rd November at Indian Community School grounds, Khaitan.
In the exhilarating Throw ball matches held for ladies, 8 teams contested for the coveted title. The teams were divided into 2 groups and the top team from each group would qualify for the semi-finals. Group A consisted of Starz, KVWA, AAK & Dubop out of which Starz topped the group. Group B consisted of Spikers, Abbasiya Orions, Al Rathath & Kuwait Konkans out of which Kuwait Konkans topped the group. In the thrilling final, ever dynamic team Kuwait Konkans emerged as true champions beating Starz by 15-12, 13-15, 15-8.
In the keenly contested Volleyball tournament for men, 5 teams took part to win the title. The teams were Kunjal Friends, Mangalore Friends, Salmiya friends A, Salmiya Friends B & Kuwait Masters. In the thrilling final, Kunjal Friends beat Mangalore Friends by 25-20, 25-14, 23-25 & 25-14 to lift the KCWA Cup 2009. All the volleyball matches were of knockout basis comprising of 5 sets each.
The felicitation ceremony was presided over by Helen Pinto and the Board of Trustees of Indian Community School Khaitan, Rajan Daniel, Vijayan Karaiyil and Francis Machado.

Throw ball:
Best Catcher - Veena Pinto (Starz)
Best all rounder - Seema Miranda (Kuwait Konkans)
Fairplay Awards - Strikerz and Dubop
Volleyball:
Best Offender - Samad (Kunjal Friends)
Best Defender - Melwyn Rebello (Kunjal Friends)
Best all rounder - Majeed (Mangalore Friends)
Fairplay award - Anwar (Kunjal Friends)
Winners & Runners up teams were awarded with Trophies, medals and cash prizes. The felicitation Ceremony was conducted by well known personality of Kuwait Mahesh Prabhu.

The Inaugural function of the tournament commenced with the prayer and introduction by Ms. Sunitha D’silva and an official welcome address by KCWA President Rudy D’souza. Stephen Machado and Rudy D’ Souza did the announcements & running commentary of the matches. Ivan D’Souza, Suresh, Alex & Prajesh officiated the tournament. Sports secretary Alex Rego and Tournament coordinator Naveen Mascarenhas wonderfully coordinated the whole event and were supported by KCWA Management Committee Members.
