Moodbidri, Jan 30: ‘Artificial Intelligence is the future, embrace or be outdated’ said Dr Prahlad Vadakkepat, Associate Professor, The National University of Singapore at the inaugural function of the two-day global conference on 'Advanced Smart and Sustainable Technologies in Engineering' (GCASSTE-2020) held on January 30 at Mangalore Institute of Technology & Engineering, here.
The conference sponsored by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE, New Delhi) is jointly organized by the Department of Civil, Mechanical, Electronics & Communication and Computer Science Engineering. It deals with the advanced technologies that are more sustainable, solving critical engineering problems, improving the overall quality of life and hence benefitting society at large. The grant from AICTE is in recognition to the uniqueness and the distinctive objectives of the conference and its intended outcomes to the different domains of engineering and society at large.
After the inauguration, Dr Prahlad V delivered the keynote address on the topic ‘Importance of Artificial Intelligence & Deep Learning’. He spoke about the relevance of Artificial Intelligence in all domains in today’s world. Dr Prahalad’s address focused on Artificial Intelligence, Machine learning, Deep Learning and the need for one to pursue these as their passion and master it. Dr Prahlad stressed that AI is indeed the future. With the industry shifting to AI, Robotics, Automation, and IoT to transform, he mentioned about improving efficiency and productivity in all spheres of engineering. Dr Prahalad addressed the researchers and mentioned that innovation is the differentiator and that makes a researcher distinct. He urged the researchers to network and share knowledge. "Sharing knowledge is predominantly important; it improves knowledge and conferences are an opportunity to meet people and get ideas." he said.
Prof G R Rai, advisor of MITE, in his address, lauded the conference theme and mentioned the relevance of smart technologies in today’s context. Rajesh Chowta, chairman, Rajalaxmi Education Trust, presided over the inaugural programme. In his presidential remarks, he spoke about the relevance of conducting such international conference in Engineering Colleges, which will provide an opportunity to the students to learn and implement new ideas. Also, this platform will give an avenue to network and collaborate with academicians and researchers across the globe. He urged the participants to partake in conferences, share ideas, learn, unlearn and relearn, propose and invent solutions. He also spoke about how the common man like Harekala Hajabba, the Padmashri awardee contributed to society though he had a very humble beginning and appealed to the young innovators to work at solving societal problems.
Themes and tracks of the global conference:
The conference had paper presentation on parallel tracks of Electronics & Communication that would comprehend on Communication, Power Electronics, and Embedded systems. The Civil Engineering segment looks at varied themes ranging from Structures, Environment, Composites, Geotechnical & Transportation, Water Resources and Concrete Technologies. The Mechanical Engineering tracks aim at being a thought-provoking platform of discussion on Thermal Engineering, Manufacturing, Design & Maintenance and Material Engineering.
The conference had received 220 full-length papers from across the globe including countries like USA, Dubai, Singapore, Japan, Indonesia, and Nigeria. After thorough scrutiny and review, 169 papers are selected and will be presented at different tracks in the two-day conference. The conference will also have another keynote address by Dr Bambang Istijono, Centre for DS, Andalas University, Indonesia on the ‘Reduction of floods caused by rain using infiltration wells and rain reservoirs’. Also, present at the programme was Dr Venkata Reddy, former professor of NITK who is the co-chair of the conference. Dr G L Easwara Prasad, principal welcomed the gathering. Dr C R Rajshekar, vice-principal and coordinator of the conference delivered the vote of thanks. Glenson Toney compered the programme.
