Mangaluru: Ambulance rams into scooter near KPT – Woman killed

Mangaluru, Jan 30: A woman, who was riding a scooter, lost her life on the spot after an ambulance hit her vehicle near KPT here on Thursday, January 30.

The victim has been identified as Sujatha Shetty from Gurpur.

The ambulance involved in the accident was reportedly moving to Coimbatore. After the accident, the body which was being transported by the ambulance was arranged to be taken to Coimbatore by another vehicle.

The ambulance which caused the accident has been confiscated by Kadri police.

    No doubt Ambulance and other emergency vehicles have the right of way.
    But whenever I see these ambulances zipping, i am left wondering what happens if someone fails to move out of the way, what happens if the brakes fail, what happens if the emergency responder creates an emergency himself.

    These ambulance drivers are quite a maniac on the roads.

    Illiterate motorists in India! When an ambulance passes by, each and every motorist has to to take the extreme left to a halt to let it reach hospital as fast as possible. There is a system of green corridor.
    We selfishly let many to succumb to death in the ambulance! The scooter isn't deserves a penalty and not the ambulance!!!!! My God!!

    If you are a regular commuter from kundapur to Mangalore , perhaps you have noticed , young people(students, ladies gents) changing lanes without giving any heed to 4 wheelers.
    I get goosebumps when I saw a saree clad lady going in the right most lane just recently when i was on a bus from Udupi.

    Perhaps it is important to ban certain 2 wheelers from highways. Let there be CCTV based evidence at intersection on the highways to fine 2 wheelers who flout rules.
    Even if allowed on highways, what is the necessity to take the right most lane? Why can't one go in the slower lane?

    Ban two wheeler from highway and allow rich 4 wheeler fancy luxurious cars that's a good initiative , perhaps you forgot that everybody pays life time road taxes, i myself have witnessed how fast cars are being recklessly driven on highway. look carefully how many cars,buses, trucks have taken lives of bikers.

    Who's mistake is not important... Whenever two wheeler met with accident 95 % chances rider will die or injured badly.... So better avoid two Wheeler... Two wheelers are not for highways and long journey... It is only for villeges...

    two wheelers fit for villages ? i have KTM RC 390 i have covered 1000 kms on long ride. have you heard of super bikes in general ? don't make fun of 2 wheelers just because you have a car.

    Ambulances are meant to take critically ill or injured patience to hospitals to save someone life and they use sirens to alert vehicles ahead of them. Its other parties duty to give way or keep themselves away from approaching ambulance.

    Only the person who is on the wheel would know better his efficiency and responsibilities. Blaming is easy but practically it's a tough job.

    Ambulance didnot carry sick person. IT was carrying dead body. So there may not be siren. There was no hurry for ambulance to go fast.

    RIP . Nantur and Kpt junctions are the dangerous spots / circles. No steps are being taken by MLA or MP for improvement.No traffic signal lights in these intersections to make it even worse. Technology is not utilized at all.Fly over make take another 10 years.

    Sorry to say that Ambulance drivers are very careless. Ambulances are to be given way is the rule.
    This rule is misused by most ambulance drivers. They can use this rule only in emergency and very serious cases. their reckless driving should be dealt with strictly by all concerned.

    Ambulance drivers misuse orivelege given to them, they don't bother to dim the lights at night, often switch on 6 to 8 lights and blind co users of roads....even if there is no urgency, they don't care about others....

    Mangalore administration is completely failed in maintaining the roads. No circles are safe in Mangalore city. Our MLAs are busy with inauguration only. And our MCC more than two months over now, no CORPORATOR is working, if we ask them they say we have not taken oath.

    Our country is not ruled by educated people, only politicians are running. If we get educated politicians, then the city roads and administration would have been improved a lot . Because of poor politicians that lady has lost her life. If the roads and circles are better we can get only from educated leaders and save many life. Don't mix the issue with driving. If roads are safe then one can drive smoothly.

    Prabhuji, While you are right on the competency of some of our politicians there is no point in blaming politicians instead blame the people who elect them. Meanwhile 90% of our drivers neither have knowledge of the traffic rules nor posses any road safety sense. Two wheeler riders are the worst lot and nothing can be said about auto rickshaw and bus drivers. It's the law enforcing agencies and government administration that needs to be blamed for the conditions of roads and competence of drivers. Unfortunately nothing is going to change the situation because we enlightened people of this country do not value human life.
