Bengaluru, Jan 29: The state high court, on Tuesday January 28, service notice on the state government relating to public interest litigations (PIL) that have sought instruction from the high court to the state government to set up special investigation team (SIT) to probe the incident in which the police had opened fire at a crowd during anti - Citizenship Amendment Act protests on December 19. In this incident, two persons had lost their lives while several were injured.
Freedom fighter, H S Doreswamy and others have filed these petitions. The division bench of the high court, which heard arguments placed by the petitioners, directed issuance of notices to the state government's chief secretary, principal secretary in the department of home, and Mangaluru city police commissioner, asking them to file objections for the above prayer if any by February 4.
The bench also directed Mangaluru city police commissioner to conserve CCTV footage connected with the incidents of disturbance that day. The bench said that another application dealing with the same issue which was filed in the court will be heard along with the current application.
