Karkala: Youth Red Cross volunteers celebrate Republic Day

Karkala, Jan 27: On the occasion of 71st Republic Day celebration, the Youth Red Cross volunteers of Manjunatha Pai Memorial Govt. First Grade College, Karkala chose two unique ways of observing the day besides the flag hoisting ceremony with a motto 'Help Yourself Help All', the YRC Unit organized a programme within the college premises and another special event in another educational institute, a special school.

One unit comprises of around 95 volunteers engaged in ‘CCC’, ie ‘Clean College Campaign’ with an objective to create awareness amongst the college students on cleanliness in the campus. The volunteers of the First Unit actively participated in the campaign.



Another unit comprises of 90 Youth Red Cross members of the College who initiated to visit Vijetha Special School at Parapu, Karkala and spent an entire day in the school premises. The volunteers witnessed the flag hoisting ceremony and a formal function in the school. Owner of Janapriya Rice Mill Manjunath, sub-inspector of Karkala police station, Madhu B E, eminent donor for the school developments Valerian D’Souza, president Rathnakar Ameen, treasurer Santhosh Nayak were invited as the chief guests. The founder of the school and managing trustee of Sri Guru Ragavendra Seva Trust Dr Kanthi Harish in her welcome address narrated the start and the evolution of this three-year-old school and also proudly shared the achievements of her special students in the field of sports in the state and national level. The chief guests Madhu BE congratulated the team and wished for more successful ventures to materialize at the school. The office bearers of the YRC unit of the college Prof Mythri and Prof Divya Prabhu were also present during the occasion. Prof Mythri, on behalf of the YRC team expressed her pleasure of organising this event in the school and assured co-operation and association in the future as well. While the cleaning work was in progress, the school organized various sports for the special students and their guardians on this special occasion thus it made the event more colourful and meaningful. Jyothi Ramesh compered the formal function, Shwetha proposed the vote of thanks.

Principal of the MPM GFGC, Karkala Prof Shrivarma Ajri M also visited the campus and requested the young student volunteers to get inspired from the social service activities that Dr Kanthi and her team selflessly indulged in. He congratulated the YRC Unit for making a great start of associating with Vijetha Special School and also promised more support in all possible ways from MPM GFGC. He also donated an amount of R 5,000 to the school on the spot.

The YRC volunteers involved in cleaning the campus surrounding and levelling one side of the ground. The team was also accompanied by final year BBA students Pranam, Vidyabhushan, Suchith and Sujesh to inspire and guide the volunteers.
