Mangaluru, Jan 26: It has come to light that a big scam has taken place in the FASTag stickers that have been distributed through private banks and E-service centres. Heavy vehicles like truck are making the best of this as they are paying less amount than stipulated in the tollgates.
While the government is incurring huge revenue loss due to this scam, the truck owners are making profit as they are paying far less than what they are supposed to pay to the toll gate.
This issue is seen only in FASTag stickers that are issued by private entities. In Suratkal toll gate alone, in one week, it is recorded that more than 100 heavy vehicles have passed at a very low toll fee. Now the toll gates at Suratkal, Hejamady, Sastan, Brahmarakootlu and Talapady have joined their hands together and have blocked the FASTag of these heavy vehicles, who have flouted the rule. The tollgate personnel are asking the drivers of these vehicles to go to the bank and give proper information.
Due to this discrepancy, the companies who have taken toll collection contract have lost lac of rupees in one or two months period. After the contractors of toll gate brought this scam to the notice of NHAI, decision is taken to block these FASTag.
