Bantwal, Feb 25: The Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) Mangaluru Rural District Committee today intensified its protest against the Brahmarakotlu toll gate, which they claim is controversial and illegal. The party held a dharna satyagraha (non-violent protest) near the toll gate, calling for its immediate removal.

The protest was officially inaugurated by prominent figures including lawyer and Christian religious leader Gerald Sequeira, who signalled the start of the event by ringing a bell.

In his address, Anwar Sadat Bajatturu, SDPI Mangaluru Rural District president and a social activist, spoke vehemently against the toll booth, claiming that its establishment was unjust and detrimental to the local population. He also reiterated the demand for its removal, stating that it was an unlawful imposition on the people.

The protest saw participation from several key leaders, including national SDPI leaders Alphons Franco and Anwar Sadat Bajatturu, local activists, social workers, students, and daily commuters. Vehicle owners, particularly those who regularly travel the route, also lent their support to the protest.

The SDPI has pledged to continue its efforts until the toll gate is removed, asserting that it unjustly burdens the public.
