Mangaluru, Jan 25: The third edition of the traditional Rama–Lakshmana Jodukare Kambala was inaugurated by president of Sri Brahma Baidharkala Garadi temple, K Chittaranjan at slushy field at Goldfinch city on Saturday, January 25. Mangaluru Kambala is organised under the aegis of Capt Brijesh Chowta.
Inaugural function was presided over by former MLC Capt Ganesh Karnik. Brigediar I N Rai, Monappa Bhandary and others were the guests of honor.
Speaking on the occasion, MLC Capt Ganesh Karnik said, “This is the third year we are organising Rama-Lakshmana Jodukare Kambala. Last time around, the Mangaluru Kambala got positive response which garnered huge crowd.
“Over 100 pairs of buffaloes are expected to take part. Kambala will be held in six categories such as Negilu (junior) section, Hagga (junior) section, Negilu (senior) section, Hagga (junior) section, Kane Halage and Adda Halage. The winners of Kane Halage, Hagga and Negilu (senior) will be awarded with two sovereign of gold and runner-ups will be awarded with one sovereign of gold, while winners of Adda Halage, Hagga, Negilu (junior) section will be awarded with one sovereign of gold and runner up will be awarded with half sovereign of gold.”
The formal function was held in the evening on Saturday. The prize distribution ceremony will be held on January 26, which will be presided over by zilla panchayat president Meenakshi Shanthigodu. Former MLA Mallika Prasad, zilla panchayat vice president Kasturi Panja and others are expected.
