Udupi, Jan 24: Bijapur-based Raju had married a woman from near his native place sometime back. She died six months back due to certain ailment. Raju was living in a rented home at Hejamady in the taluk with two children from his wife's previous marriage. About ten days back, he left both the children behind in the rented home, and disappeared.

Vice president of Hejamady gram panchayat, sudhakar Karkera, with humanitarian concern, provided temporary shelter and food to the children at his home. As both are minors, he conveyed information to child development project officer.

Based on this information, legal inspector of the district child protection unit Prbahakar Achar and social worker Gleesha Monteiro, visited the vice president's house and obtained information. Sensing that the children need care, support and rehabilitation, they informed the child welfare committee.

The boy has now been admitted into the CSI Boys Home and the girl has been kept in the temporary rehabilitation centre located at the government facility for children.
