Koppal, Jan 18: A post master cheated gullible villagers, who had given him money to be put in post office deposit schemes, to the tune of crores of rupees.
This incident has taken place in Madinoor villager of the district. Prasanna Purohit is the post master who has cheated the innocent villagers of their life time earnings.
Prasanna Purohit had urged the people to save in the lucrative post office schemes of the government and advised them that the money will be of use when they face difficulties in life. As Prasanna Purohit was living in the village since many years, the villagers believed his words and deposited their hard-earned money in post office deposit.

Some villagers even sold their farm lands, cows and goats and deposited the money with Prasanna Purohit. The post master wrote the amount given by them on normal notebooks and not the post office passbook. He just put the post office seal on those notebooks which are generally used to buy grocery on loan from small grocery shops.
The postal department came to know about the illegal activity of post master Prasanna Purohit last year and suspended him from service. When the villagers asked him to return their money, he returned to some and eventually escaped from the village. Now the villagers have approached the district administration to help in getting back their post office deposits.
