Kolkata, Oct 3: Teenage sensation Yuki Bhambri conquered local boy Rupesh Roy 6-3, 7-6(4) to win the ONGC-ITF futures at the Bengal Tennis Association complex here Saturday.
It took fifth-seeded Yuki 110 minutes to pocket the final encounter and collect 25 points, besides being richer by Rs.97,812. Rupesh got Rs.67,716 and 14 points.
Yuki played an excellent array of shots to take the first set in only 31 minutes, breaking Rupesh in the third and ninth games.
In the second set Rupesh pulled up his socks and the two players were involved in a close duel.
There were no breaks in the set as the rivals held on to their serves. In the sixth game Rupesh recovered from 0-40 down to hold on. The ninth game went into five deuces before Yuki managed to retain his service game. Yuki held his nerves in the tie-breaker to win the set and the match.
Yuki, however, could not complete a double, losing the overnight unfinished doubles partnering Young-Jun Kim of South Korea to second seed Divij Sharan and Vishnu Vardhan 3-6, 0-6 in just 55 minutes.
The doubles title was clinched by top seeds Rohan Gajjar and Purav Raja, who defeated Sharan and Vardhan 6-4, 7-5 in 80 minutes. Gajjar and Raja got Rs.47,401.20 and 25 points and Sharan and Vardhan earned Rs.24,829.20 and 14 ITF points.
