Udupi, Sep 29: In an operation held on Monday September 28, police arrested five inter-state robbers, who were into robbing in a cinematic fashion by distracting the victims.
The arrested have been identified as Janaki Raman (30), Maambali Vasan (25), Aditya (44), Umapati (22) and Shakti Madan (20). Out of the nine-member-gang of robbers, four are absconding. All are residents of Tiruchinapalli of Ramji Nagar in Tamilnadu. Five were arrested near a school at Hanumanth Nagar, Nittur on National Highway-17 when they were trying to flee to their native after undertaking a robbery.
Udupi town police have registered a case in this regard and the investigation is on. The team led by inspector Girish and sub-inspector Maruti Nayak undertook the operation.
In the recent case of robbery, the gang had stolen a laptop near the bus stand and about four days ago was involved in robbing RS 25,00o from a car after breaking its windshield. They mostly robbed away articles and cash from the vehicles in the parking area.
