Mangaluru: St Aloysius Industrial Training Institute exhibits sportsmanship at Sports Meet

Mangaluru, Jan 11: Sports Day is a day of honouring and awarding talented students who participate in sports. The annual Sports Meet of St Aloysius Industrial Training Institute here was held on January 11 at Gonzaga Grounds.

The chief guest of the inaugural programme was Fr Andrew D'Costa, director St Joseph ITI, Jeppu, Mangaluru. The programme was presided over by Fr Dionysius Vaz SJ-rector, St Aloysius Institutions.

The event commenced by escorting the dignitaries to the ground. Students displayed a splendid march past and gave the guard of honour to the dignitaries. The chief guest hoisted the college flag. The formal inaugural programme began with a prayer conducted by the students.



Fr Cyril D'Mello, SJ- Director of the institution welcomed the gathering. The students took oath to partake in the event adhering to the rules and regulations, exhibiting true sportsmanship. They torched the light as a mark of Sports Day and true sportsmanship. MRAC 2nd-year students were honoured by the chief guest for the best march past. The Sports Meet was inaugurated by releasing balloons into the air.

Inaugurating the Sports Meet, the chief guest said, “As a sportsman, he can learn to be well-disciplined. He can learn all the qualities needed in his achievement. In sports, participation is a must. Everyone has to participate. Sportsmanship brings unity and it helps to build the nation. He appreciated the students and wished them for the sports meet.”

In his presidential address, Fr Dionysius Vaz SJ said, “As per the saying of great boxer, Mohammad Ali- Champions are not made in gyms, champions are made from something they have deep inside them as a desire, a dream, a vision. They have to have the skill and the will. But the will must be stronger than the skill. He wished all the participants of all the events.”

Roshan D’Souza- Principal proposed the vote of thanks.

Other dignitaries on the dais were Noel Lobo- Training Officer, Reeyon Prithvil D’Souza- Sports secretary.

Students participated in the sports events cheerfully. 4*100 mt relay was a show-stealer. MRAC 2nd year students won the first place. COE trade students won the second place. ELECTRICIAN 1st-year students won third place. Winners of all the events were honoured by medals and certificates during the concluding programme.

The sports meet concluded with the National Anthem.

Robin Vas, Junior Training Officer was the compere for the event.
