Gelatin bombs used to catch fish in Pale-Usgao

Bicholim, Jan 10: Villagers from Pale and Usgao, Bicholim have claimed that the fishes are being killed with gelatin bombs in the Pale-Usgao river.

The villagers raised alarms over unidentified miscreants detonating gelatin sticks in the Pale-Usgao river and surrounding rivulets, consequently destroying different species of fish, besides damaging the river banks and houses located near the river.

“This type of fishing is banned and unethical. There are large numbers of blasts being perpetrated in broad daylight, by unknown persons, as a result of which different types of species of aquatic life in the river are killed. It also damages the river banks," said one of the locals.

The villagers have expressed disappointment over the lack of action on the part of the government. They stated that although the gelatin bombs were being detonated in the early afternoon, no investigation was being conducted.
