Mangaluru: Karavali Utsav to be held from Jan 10 to 19

Mangaluru, Jan 8: Karavali Utsav will be held from January 10 to 19 in Mangaluru. The annual fiesta of the district has a series of programmes scheduled, and will be held at three venues - Karavali Utsav ground, Kadri Park and Panambur Beach.

Addressing a press meet at DC’s office on Wednesday, district-in-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary said that the Utsav will begin with a grand procession from Nehru Maidan to Karavali Utsav Ground at 3.30 pm on January 10. Cultural troupes from across Karnataka will put up colorful performances in the procession. The Utsav will be formally inaugurated by actor and director Rishab Shetty. Minister for Kannada and Culture and Tourism C T Ravi will be present. Mangaluru South MLA D Vedavyas Kamath will deliver the presidential address.

On January 11, a district-level sports meet will be held. A football tournament for high school boys at Nehru Maidan, volleyball tournament for degree college boys and girls and a throw ball tournament for high school girls at Mangala Stadium, wrestling competition for high school boys and girls at U Srinivas Mallya Indoor Stadium and a basketball tournament for men and women at Mangala Stadium's basketball court are the sports events scheduled.

A three-day kite festival will be held at Panambur Beach from January 17 to 19 and is the main highlight of the Utsav. Kite enthusiasts from Philippines, Scotland, Turkey, Thailand, Netherlands, Singapore and other countries have confirmed their participation, said Poojary.

He also highlighted that the Utsav aims to promote local talents.

MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, DC Sindhu B Rupesh, Additional DC Roopa, Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) commissioner Shanady Ajith Kumar Hegde and others were present.
