Mangalore, Sep 19: On the eve of Navaratri festival, which is set to begin on Saturday Sepember 19, most regions of the twin-districts received good rains on Friday September 18.
Udupi, Kaup, Brahmavar and almost all places in Karkala taluk got good rains. In Dakshina Kannada district, places like Bantwal, Puttur, Sullia and almost the entire Beltangady taluk received rains coupled with thunder and lightning. Because of rains, power supply was disrupted at several places.
Even though the rain disrupted to some extent the festival preparations and business at the central market, there have been no reports of heavy losses so far. In the meantime, the meteorological department has predicted the rains and thunder showers to continue in coastal and south interior Karnataka for the next two days.
Bangalore too received heavy rains on Friday, throwing the traffic out of gear, clogging the drains and affecting the normal life of the citizens in low-lying areas.
