Mangalore, Sep 18: Western range inspector general of police (IGP) Gopal Hosur said that the commissionerate proposed to be set up here, will become a reality in three phases, by the end of this financial year. Once it comes up, the armed contingents of the policemen will get strengthened and the police department would be able to improve its vigil on law and order situation in rural places, he explained.
"Once the commissionerate is established, new stations including the one for armed reserve police, will be set up. The naxal activities have come down drastically in the recent past. During the year, 35 persons including nine naxals were arrested in connection with naxal activities. Two police stations in Udupi district, two in Chikmagalur district and one in shimoga district, were established during this year," he detailed. After the commissionerate comes into existence, the police outposts at Bellare and Nellyady will be upgraded, he assured.
