Mangalore: Policemen Not Accused in Ritesh's Suicide Note - SP

Mangalore, Sep 17:  The local chapter of People's Union of Civil Liberties had earlier said that its investigations have revealed the mental torture inflicted by the policemen belonging to Urwa police station here, based on a fake complaint, had overwhelmingly affected student Ritesh Pais (18) from Barebail Bejai in the city, who ended his life by hanging himself on Saturday last because of police atrocities. Some media reports also had pointed an accusing finger at the policemen relating to the case.

Speaking at a press conference in the city on Wednesday September 16, Dakshina Kannada district superintendent of police Dr A Subrahmanyeshwar Rao said that the death note left behind by the youth has not at all referred to any police atrocities, as claimed. "It is true that the note contains the names of Urwa sub-inspector of police C Kiran and police constable Devaiah Gowda. However, Ritesh never said in the note that he ended his life because of them," Rao clarified.

The death note contains detailed information about the mental agony reportedly inflicted on Ritesh by his father and elder sister. There are doubts that internal family squabbles had taken their toll on him, the SP explained.

He displayed the note left behind by Ritesh in front of the media persons. Rao added that the policemen will get the note analyzed through psychologists, to ascertain the mental condition of Ritesh, just before he committed suicide. Already the additional superintendent of police R Ramesh has been instructed to conduct an investigation covering all aspects including the allegations on the policemen, and submit a report thereof, he added.

    Dear Readers of Daiji When churches were attacked all the catholic people stood for protest. Now when a catholic person is harassed by the police , why are we not fighting for this issue

    SP sir, the crux of the issue here is the genuinity of a compliant accepted by the station officer which is said to be false. Probe that and not cast aspersions on the parents. Why should police visit at odd hours? See this from the harassment and embarassment angle. You will get the answer.

    Fr.Mukalal''s death is natural and ritesh suicide case police are not accused Good mr SP SAAB. After some days somashaker comm. report may be saying christians only attack the churchs. this is the good move by our state Gov. I appreciate mr Rao.
