Puttur, Dec 28: The inaugural programme of NSS Annual Special Camp of St Philomena College here, was held on December 26 at DKZP Higher Primary School Kuriya of the taluk.
The progressive farmer of Kuriya, Budiyaru Radhakrishna Rai inaugurated the camp by lighting a lamp and delivered the inaugural address. He said, "The NSS camp can help students acquire discipline which is inevitable in one’s life. The campers can also mingle with the villagers and thereby understand the village life."
The President of the Social Justice Committee of Puttur taluk, Panchayat Saja Radhakrishna Alva was the chief guest. He said, "NSS helps students acquire life skills as well as teaches them to become good human beings."
The principal, Prof Leo Noronha in his introductory speech said, "The National Service Scheme is based on two important principles namely, leadership and social service. It also makes the students great achievers in society."
The correspondent of the college, Fr Alfred J Pinto delivered the presidential address. He said, "Students must make optimal use of their talents to achieve great success."
The president of the School Betterment committee, Abdul Jabbar M S, headmistress, Leelavathi K, vice-president of Aryapu Gram Panchayat, Vasantha Sri Durga, members, Ramesh Rai Dimbri and Sudhamani Rai expressed their best wishes.
Honorary advisor of the Annual Day celebrations committee, Venkatramana Nakshatrittaya, gram panchayat members, Jayanthi and Kusuma Sundara Mapala graced the occasion.
Akhila and team presented a prayer song. NSS programme officer, Shashiprabha B welcomed the gathering. NSS programme officer, Dinakar Anchan proposed the vote of thanks. Pooja M K compered the programme.
On the motto, ‘Science and Scientific Temper for the Youth’, this week-long camp consists of shramadana, educational and various cultural programmes.
