Mangalore, Sep 16: Mangalore is celebrating rangu rangina badhuku with ‘Sarang 107.8 Mhz’, the only community radio of Coastal Karnataka. St Aloysius College radio, ‘Sarang’ will be launched on September 23, at 10:30 am.
Union minister for law and justice, M Veerappa Moily and home minister Dr V S Acharya will launch the community radio. The radio broadcasts 4-hour programmes in Konkani, English, Kannada, Tulu, Malayalam and Beary language. The transmission begins at 6 pm every day.
Fr Richard Rego, director of the radio said “Soon the broadcast will be extended to 8 hours a day”. Its range is up to 60 km wit its reach extending to Puttur, Moodbidri, Haleyangadi, Padubidri and many such interior places in Mangalore.
The radio serves for the benefits of Mangalore communities. Some of the famous programmes are ‘Campus beats’, news coverage of Mangalore colleges; ‘Manemathu’, chit chats of a family; ‘Makkaledege Sarang’, showcase of kids’ ability and ‘Bengreda Swara’, interviews of fishermen, an insight to their problems and facilities.
The radio offers a chance for local communities to give programmes. Many colleges, schools, non-governmental organizations, anganwady centres and artistes have given programmes that promote society’s development.
