Mangalore, Sep 14: Three youths were seriously injured while unloading large pieces of marble slabs from a goods tempo at Maidan 4th Cross Road, Near Rao and Rao Circle, on Monday September 14.
The injured have been identified as Haneef, Naufal, and Nausheel, residents of Ulaibettu near Gurupura. All three are relatives.
“The incident happened when the young men started work after loosening the rope that was holding together all the slabs. Suddenly, the slabs fell down and they were unable to escape”, said an eyewitness. He added that they were trapped under the slabs and were pulled out immediately which helped save their lives.
They are all relatives of the owner of a shop near the spot where the incident took place. The shop owner had purchased the marble for flooring work at his new establishment. The injured youths attempted to shift the marble from the tempo as labourers were not available.
The injured have been admitted to a private hospital in the city. The road was completely blocked for half an hour after the incident as a crowd gathered there.
