Mangalore, Sep 14: The funeral of the two youngsters, who ran away and jumped into river Netravati after the policemen intercepted the vehicle in which they were transporting cattle illegally, at Kolpe near Nellyadi in the first week of this month, was held under tight police vigil at Bajpe on Sunday September 13.
Asif from Bajpe Shantigudde and Mustafa from Bajpa Konchar, who were involved with several past cases, had escaped during the police operation. Efforts to trace them had gone in vain. However, their bodies were found from different places on the river banks a couple of days ago. In the meantime, some persons had alleged that the policemen had beaten them up and then thrown their bodies into the river.
The policemen were present in large numbers to ensure that miscreants do not encash the opportunity to start disturbances. District reserve police force and policemen of Panambur, Kavoor and the city rural police station were present. Deputy superintendent of police Girish and inspector Valentine D'Souza oversaw the law and order situation.
