Puttur, Sep 14: It’s a huge honour for Dakshina Kannada district that two of the recipients of Karnataka Natak Academy Award 2009 hail from the region, said academy member Dr H M Kumaraswamy.
Kumaraswamy was speaking at the felicitation programme organized to honour academy award recipients I K Boluvar and Mohan Sona at Anurag complex, here on Saturday September 12. The duo deserved to have been conferred the academy award a long time ago for their significant contributions to the field of drama since past three decades. However, better late than never, the award to the dup is one of the most happy moments for art lovers, he observed.
The cultural sphere is under the threat of losing its originality with the mushrooming trend watching DVDs and CDs, he said and emphasized that frequent staging of plays across the state will only help preserve the true cultural essence.
Karnataka Sangh president B Purandar Bhat presided. Stage songs by the musicians of amateur children’s troupe led by H Krishnayya Laila presented an entertaining programme of stage songs after the felicitation function.
The programme was held under the aegis of theatre groups, Drushya Puttur, Bahuvachanam, Puttur and Samskrutika Kala Kendra, Boluvar.
