Mangalore, Sep 14: Hasta Gallery Projects, art centre will host Sundar Kanta Walker, an artist from the Lake District, England as its first artist-in-resident and present a collection of her paintings on its premises at the Pinto Garden Lane, Padavinangadi, Konchady, Mangalore.
An exhibition of her British Landscapes will be be mounted during her stay from September 20 onwards. She finds Mangalore is a beautiful town and has fallen in love with the lush green landscapes and has come to paint the dramatic monsoons, its people and culture.
This one-month residency is funded by Arts Council, England and supported by Hasta Gallery as part of its international residency programme.
Sundar is a self-taught artist concentrating on painting landscapes with distinct style of her own which fuses the concepts and methods of western artistic practice with the sun drenched colours and symbolism of Indian art. Sundar spent most of her working life in Manchester and relocated to Grange Over Sands ten years ago. The artist born in Punjab spent her teens in Scotland and Britain has been her home since the 1960s with her Scottish husband.
Hasta Gallery, the art centre with its base now in Mangalore is a space for artists and art lovers to learn and interact with the artists and residents from all over the world.
