Sohar, Sep 10 : Monthi fest, as popularly known for the feast of Nativity of our “DEAR MOTHER MARY” was celebrated with much aplomb and fervor by the Manglorean community at St. Anthony’s Church, Sohar, Sultanate of Oman. On this day the new harvest is blessed and dedicated to our Mother with prayers for a fruitful life for one and all.
The Mangalorean community of Sohar region celebrated the feast on Wednesday, 09th September at St. Anthony’s Church, Sohar. With the faithful gathered near the grotto at around 20:15 hrs. Beginning with the Rosary to our BLESSED MOTHER and followed by the showering of flowers by children with melodious background hymns “Sakkad sangtha Melyam” and “ Moriyek Hogolsiya” sung by our Konkani choir. The choir was beautifully led by Franky Monis. The faithful then proceeded to the church for solemn Mass.
Parish priest Rev Fr. George Vadukkut welcomed guest priests Fr. Albert D’Silva and Fr John Harry D’ Souza (known and respected priest from Mangalore and also the Chief Editor of Kutmacho Sevak a monthly Konkani tabloid).
The solemn mass celebration started at 20:45 hrs. Presided by Fr. John Harry D'Souza along with Fr Albert D’Silva & Fr. George Vadukkut. Fr. John delivered a powerful sermon and stressed on the importance of Mass being celebrated in our daily lives. After the mass the holy corn was distributed to the faithful and children were gifted with hampers.
Under the able leadership of Richard D Souza, Shinas dinner “Novem Jevnche” was organized at the Church hall. Guest priest, Fr. John, cut the cake and shared it with Fr. Albert,
Fr. George & our veteran priest Fr. Edardo Saracini. The vegetarian dinner was served in a typical south Indian style i.e. the banana leaves with mouthwatering sweet vorn.
The Faithful were treated with some melodious Konkani yesteryear hits by Franky Monis, Clipton Almeida and a beautiful Hindi song by Bosco. Richard Dsouza thanked the guest priests and the leaders of the community for their efforts and the ever well wishing sponsors.
It was truly another memorable event for all the faithful gathered at this special occasion.
