Byndoor, Dec 14: Teachers in Byndoor staged a protest here on Saturday December 14 urging arrest of SDMC president Mohan Chandra for allegedly assaulting Uppunda government higher primary Urdu school in-charge headmistress Mallika Shetty.

The protesters submitted a request to Byndoor tahsildar and Byndoor police circle inspector in this connection.

Karnataka state primary school teacher association Byndoor zone president Vishwanath Shetty who led the protests said that there were four permanent teachers in Uppunda government Urdu school earlier. "But all of them obtained transfer after harassment by the SDMC president," he said.

"The school SDMC president had earlier assaulted a teacher named Mamatha. He has assaulted Mallika teacher now. It is unfortunate that teachers are becoming victims of assault.

"Teachers urge that police department should act, arrest the suspect and send him away. If our demands are not met, instead of going to the school, we will sit in protest at the office of education officer," he warned.

The protesters also demanded adequate security for government teachers.

Sources said that following the protest, the state education minister spoke to Mallika and other protesters over the phone, and promised to take action in the matter.
