Mangaluru, Nov 8: Despite being among the highest taxpayers to the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC), the residents of Falnir Vas Lane are suffering due to the negligence of the administration. The area has become a breeding ground for mosquitoes and other diseases, making daily life difficult for the locals. The residents have threatened to stage a protest in front of the MCC if their issues are not addressed.
Speaking about the problems faced by the residents, Mohammed Aftaar Hussain said, “The silt removed from the underground drainage in the Vas Lane area five years ago was piled up on the roadside and is yet to be cleared. One end of the area stinks due to wastewater flowing from Kankanady Market, while the other end suffers from wastewater discharge from apartment buildings. This has turned the entire area into a breeding ground for mosquitoes, and residents are unable to sleep peacefully.”
Abdul Khader Khaizer added, “Despite paying high taxes to the MCC, we face numerous problems. The stormwater drain in front of the hospital, meant for rainwater, is now filled with wastewater from apartment buildings. Although we have reported this issue to the local corporator, no action has been taken. We have been dealing with these problems for five years, and the work remains incomplete.”
Dr Vasant Shetty commented, “The road development in Vas Lane seems to have been done solely for vehicle parking. Ambulances cannot reach residents during emergencies. We are frustrated with the stench and the mosquito menace. The local corporator does not even visit our area.”
Forest department officer Shahnawaz, Mohammed Kunhi, Daidon D’Souza, and others were present.
