Section 353 of Indian Penal Code is archaic and has colonial overtones. It was necessary for British to dictate and overpower Indian peasants. It has no place in a democracy where government servants are subservient to people and paid from taxes levied on them. Why we are retailing this colonial section during post independence era is a million dollar question. Police and government officials derive lot of undue advantages from this section to frame people they do not like. To them, even asking a simple question is obstructing their duty. They need a free run. Are we really independent to enjoy all rights conferred by our constitution unfettered....?
