Bengaluru, Dec 7: Karnataka tops the list as the state with maximum dengue cases registered in India. Over 35,000 dengue cases were recorded in six South Indian states out of which 14,000 were recorded in Karnataka alone.
The numbers were revealed in a government’s reply in Lok Sabha during the ongoing session of the Parliament.
Dengue caused deaths of 36 people in Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Kerala.
Across India, 91,000 cases of Dengue were recorded up to October. The number is expected to rise when the November and December data arrives. Dengue caused the deaths of 82 people across the country. In Karnataka, 13 deaths were reported and 16 were reported in Kerala.
PK Pandey, Karnataka's Health and Family Welfare Department commissioner has highlighted the need of mass awareness to control mosquito-borne tropical diseases.
“We have conducted massive information, education and communication exercise across the state with the help of ASHA workers," Pandey told media.
