Mangaluru, Dec 7: “In the current digital world, anyone can write articles, thesis and essays. One can also obtain several material easily for the same. But we cannot consider all writing as literature. Literature always has its own identity and structure,” said Fr Praveen Martis, principal, St Aloysius College (Autonomous), Mangaluru.

He was speaking at the inaugural event of ‘Yuva Sangam-2019’ jointly organised by ‘Daiji’, a trust of Konkani Writers’ Association and Konkani Department, St Aloysius College at St Aloysius College auditorium on Saturday, December 7.

“We can develop the structure of literature and give a new dimension for it. For this, we need to study and obtain knowledge from various sources. Yuva Sangam is a programme which is organised for youth, with an intention to develop their writing skills along with imparting awareness on benefits and negatives of the current digital world. The young writers should adopt humanity which is almost sold out in the current world and become creative by grabbing the opportunities, which they are getting now.”

Hemacharya, founder member, Daiji Dubai and editor of Daijiworld Monthly, graced the event as chief guest and said, “Daiji Writers’ Forum, also known as Daiji Dubai, is a forum of active Konkani writers based in Dubai providing yeoman service to Konkani language and literature for the last nineteen years. Later, it expanded its branches as Daijiworld Media under the leadership Walter Nandalike and Kavita Trust, under the leadership of Melwyn Rodrigues. Daiji Rangmandir, Konkani web-portal Maibhaas.com and now Daiji Trust in India are all part of the Daiji family. Every year, Daiji is felicitating a literary person for his/her immense contribution to Konkani.”

Andrew L D’Cunha, a known award winning poet released ‘Kan Kan Kaaniyo’, a collection of nano-stories by well- known Konkani writer and poet Vincent Pinto Angelore.

Congratulating Vincent he said, “Vincent is a writer who always highlights facts in his works. He defends his thoughts with facts. He is a close observer of incidents which happen in our society but we are not observing the same in our daily life. ‘Kan Kan Kaaniyo’ contains nano-stories which give a moral and message to the reader. “

Stany Bela, a known writer, journalist and director of Konkani TV serial ‘Mrs Meena and Family’ was felicitated during the event. Melwyn Rodrigues, renowned poet, introduced Stany Bela to the audience.

Flora Castelino, HOD, Konkani department, St Aloysius College was present on the dais. Vincent Pinto, convener, Daiji Trust, welcomed the dignitaries. Praveen Tauro, member, Daiji Trust, rendered vote of thanks. Roshan Crasta, well-known emcee compered the event.

After the stage programme, Prof Ananth Prabhu, cyber security and law trainer, KPA, Mysuru, delivered the speech on ‘Usage of Social Media’, while Alwyn Danti, writer and TV anchor, spoke on writing effective articles and literature. Fr Melwyn Pinto, director, Konkani department, St Aloysius College, took classes on the subject ‘Media and its Benefits’.

The programme ended with entertainment programmes by the students of Milagres and St Aloysius College.
