Deputy commissioner of police (traffic north), Sara Fatima, explained that 27-year-old Tej Singh is from Hariyali village in Rajasthan. He had married Deepa Konvar (27) from his own village about 30 months back. He had rented a house in Hunasemaranahalli here for himself and his wife.

Singh however was unhappy with the marriage. He was thinking of ways and means to get rid of his wife. He came to the conclusion that making the murder look like road accident was the best of the plans. According to his plan, he borrowed car from his friend for some time on November 17, and asked his wife to accompany him for a jolly ride. He took her to Nandi Hills. After dinner, just after midnight, he stopped the car near a terrain devoid of anyone's presence near Bechchanahalli Gate and pushed Deepa out of the car. He then moved the car over her body a number of times till she lost her life. To make it look real, he created dents in the car with the help of a boulder and then called the police control room to report the accident.

Tej Singh explained to the police that on their way to Nandi Hills, his wife had experienced uneasiness and therefore he had stopped the car. He said that when she got off the car, an unidentified car instantly hit her and escaped from the spot.

The police could not properly corroborate the incident with the evidences present. Traffic police inspector Chandrashekhar, got suspicious at the sight of the damaged spot of the car. He could sense that collision of cars could not leave such a dent. His doubts were supported by an expert. On verification of GPS records of tee car from the company which rented it, there was mismatch between the things explained by Singh. The police then summoned Singh and subjected him to pointed questioning, at which he crumbled and confessed to his crime.
