Mangaluru: Kadri Kambla accident - Lorry driver sent to 14-day judicial custody

Mangaluru, Dec 2: Siddalingana Gowda, the lorry driver who claimed the life of a teacher Shailaja Rao (55) in an accident on December 1 at Kadri Kambla road, has been remanded to 14 days judicial custody.

The 29-year-old resident of Gadag was arrested and prosecuted under the section IPC 304 culpable, homicide.

The lorry was loaded with furniture items from Bengaluru. It had unloaded a part of things in the city and was moving towards Udupi when the accident took place.

The police claim that the lorry driver, Siddalingana Gowda was driving the lorry recklessly and at considerable speed, which caused the accident.

    Govt is imposing additional taxes and fines for violations, pretending to be concerned about the safety. But when and were have they implemented safety measures for auto drivers or passengers in auto rickshaws. Are the top manufacturers of india controlling this for their benefit. Probably a safety measure inside the vehicle would have saved life. School kids normally will be stuffed inside auto rickshaw without any safety measure.

    Its a murder ! people doesnt know how to drive place like KADRI Kambala which is very busy street in the city. Truck driver and any driver for that matter in the city limits control their speed and emotions. Typically most drivers while driving 90 with ZARDA which make them comfortable for driving on the cost others life on the road ! Salman did the same on pavement people !!and people made him super hit and super human.

    This driver should not go for free ride ! he should be punished on the basis MURDER ! in order give a lesson to others ! his license to be confiscated and ban for another 10 years !!

    Now MUTHALIK and SHARAN PUMPWELL may be sleeping !

    The Public should first take care of the victim but the driver should be thrashed royally. This should be a lesson to all the drivers who are driving recklessly on the roads including two wheelers, autorickshaw, bus drivers. Mangalore driving is getting reckless and dangerous day by day. Very soon people will start taking law into their own hands. This footage shows the pathetic driving.

    At the junction where the accident took place the over speed. If the goods vehicle is fully at fault. Over speed is a part . Here the driver went on the wrong side and hit the auto. Here no attempt was made to apply the brakes. The auto drivers too have no respect for road discipline and they too are the part culprits in the accidents. First RTO should train these auto drivers and then the two wheelers too.

    Everyone knows the driver will come out without any punishment because they will say its brake fail. RTO should cancel his license & he should not allow driving again. Need to punish severely so that others could learn the lesson.

    The main reasons for this type of accidents is RTO not issuing the driving license properly. Everywhere brokers to get driving licenses.

    That is the main problems.. in our place also most of driver's doesn't know the signals also. They never get training in driving school. Mostly friends or parents teach how to operate vehicles. They know only know that much. Like other education systems, this driving also one must learn from authorized schools with certificates. Then only RTO must take test. This is also one type of education.

    the speed at which this gowda was driving caused all the havoc..If he was driving bit slow, he could have easily controlled. The way the rickshaw is dragged to such a long distance says that he was at high speed.

    most of the bengaluru and other district registration vehicles including KA 21 are driving at high speed in the city. Police only fines two wheeler guys for wrong parking and not wearing helmet and ignores all other traffic offences

    There is no doubt lorry drivers fault but look at the vidio properly what lorry driver make a sudden turn on that speed , a another auto was interrupting him in the middle of the road, due to that this acident took place, case must be filed another auto driver too .

    you are wrong on two counts.

    First, while approaching a junction one should slow down the vehicle as there are vehicles approaching from other directions also.

    Secondly, the autorickshaw fellow (who is turning towards right to go to pinto lane) has turned his vehicle almost 45 to 50 degrees when the truck is still far from the junction.

    The only and the only reason for this accident is the breakneck speed at which this brainless gowda was driving.

    Do not support without analyzing.

    If it is roundabout (or circle), yes, all need to slow down.

    But, when the road crosses, one road will be main and another will be small road. The vehicle in the small road must slow down and the vehicle in the main road has his "Right of Way" and he should not slow down.

    The subject accident is not in the circle, but in the junction with cross road. And the truck driver is rightfully did the driving and rickshaw driver should have booked. The rickshaw driver one who really faulted must be enjoying his day today because he has not yet realized his mistake. When learned people in this forum themselves can not understand the traffic rules, how can we expect the poor driver will understand the road rules?

    Looks, still time has not come to teach the rickshaw drivers...

    there was enough time and gap for the truck driver brake or even slow down when the auto rickshaw fellow is turning if he was at a speed of 60 km. But that fellow was driving above 80 km for sure or even 100.

    I will just ask you one simple question. If the truck driver was not overspeeding, what made the autorickshaw to be dragged to a distance of around 100 meters? ( I have gone to the spot today morning and seen all the area)

    Point no. 1: Why you are not realizing the rickshaw driver's mistake? Do you think, rickshaw driver can do anything on the road and it is rest of the drivers who are supposed to go slow or break?

    Point no. 2: May I know what is the speed limit for that road? And at what speed, the truck was moving before the accident? I don't think there is even a signage of speed limit.

    Rickshaw got dragged for 100 meters is not an issue here, as long as we don't know the answer for Point no. 2.

    Only improvement I can expect from the truck driver is, he should learn "defensive driving" habits. meantime, I urge police / court to take action on rickshaw driver.

    Exactly. He was in speed n the dumb lost his brains on nervousness . Instead of applying breaks to avoid auto he turned staring wheel and lost control. That junction has no indication to the new drivers. Probably he never expected the intersection. All riders and drivers should fallow stop and proceed at intersection. Auto drivers and young two wheels riders never fallow the rules. Because of them others life on risk along with theirs

    As per CCTV footage, it clearly shows that the lorry driver was over speeding & the main cause of that accident.

    The juction is a accident zone where road humps should have been put long ago on the main road. People are loosing lives but nobody cares...


    Humps should be put on main road because vehicle drivers will come with full speed thinkng that it's not a junction. It's major accident area.
