Padubidri, Aug 31: “Nowadays, education is limited to employment but it has to safeguard the values and culture of the nation”, said Nalin Kumar Kateel, member of parliament, at a scholarship distribution function held at the Bunts Association.
He was speaking at the ‘Sirimudi Datti Nidhi’ function organized by the Bunts Association, Padubidri. Scholarships worth Rs 4 lac were distributed to 312 students.
“Education has to teach values and culture. Educated people should help preserve Indian culture”, he said, adding that education is commercialized.
Padmanabha S Payyade, president of Bunts Association, Mumbai, said that the traditional values of the Tuluva culture are missing nowadays.
Yellappa Kurubar, mayor of Belgaum City Corporation, achievers Merkala Thyampanna Shetty, Krishna Y Shetty, and Kaup Viswanatha Shetty, were felicitated during the programme.
Santhoor Bhaskar Shetty, president of Bunts Association, Padubidri, Arun Shetty, entrepreneur from Mumbai, Naveenchandra Shetty, secretary of association, and treasurer Shreenath Hegde, were present.
